Évaluation de la cancérogénicité par des organismes officiels
Le CIRC (1999) considère que l'exposition combinée aux toluènes alpha-chlorés (dichlorure de benzyle, trichlorométhyl benzène, chlorure de benzyle) avec le chlorure de benzoyle est probablement cancérogène pour l'homme (groupe 2A).
L'ACGIH considère que le trichlorométhyl benzène est cancérogène suspecté chez l'humain (groupe A2).
Le NTP considère que le trichlorométhyl benzène est raisonnablement anticipée cancérogène (R).
